More than 400 children from Quilicura will be trained in road safety by Inchcape

Over 400 children in Quilicura to receive road safety training from Inchcape

  • “Yo Me Muevo Seguro Kids” is a corporate volunteering initiative by the automotive distribution company, aimed at providing tools to prevent road traffic incidents.

As part of Children's Day, Inchcape reaffirms its commitment to communities and safe mobility through “Yo Me Muevo Seguro Kids”, a road safety education programme for Year 3 and Year 4 students, which will be implemented in schools in the Quilicura district.

The initiative responds to a concerning reality: every six minutes, a road traffic incident occurs in Chile, according to Carabineros, with traffic accidents being the leading external cause of death among children aged 1 to 14. In 2024, 50% of children who died were not using child restraint systems correctly.

With technical support from the National Traffic Safety Commission (CONASET), this programme will be delivered through an Interactive Road Safety Park, featuring fun and educational stations where children learn through experience to be more conscious pedestrians, passengers, and cyclists.

“We believe road safety education should start in childhood. This programme, which we have already implemented in other Latin American countries where we operate, is now being introduced in the country to instil safe habits in young children, empowering them as agents of change within their school communities and families,” said Laura Jil, Sustainability Manager at Inchcape Chile.

“We deeply value initiatives like this because they bring road safety closer to children in a meaningful and engaging way,” said Luz Renata Infante, Executive Secretary of CONASET. “Experience shows that when children learn at an early age, they not only adopt this knowledge for their own safety but are also able to positively influence their parents and family environments. Programmes like this, carried out collaboratively between the state and companies, are key to advancing safer mobility with a focus on education and prevention,” added Luz Renata Infante, Executive Secretary of CONASET.

The programme includes three educational stations:

  • Pedestrian Mode: teaches visibility, attention, and how to deal with distractions while walking.
  • Passenger Mode: promotes the correct use of seat belts and child restraint systems.
  • Driver Mode: raises awareness about helmet use and the responsible role of cyclists.

These experiences culminate in a road circuit where children apply what they have learned in a safe, recreational, and inclusive environment.

The implementation of “Yo Me Muevo Seguro Kids” will be led by over 40 volunteer colleagues from Inchcape, trained to deliver content aligned with public road safety policies. In its first phase, the activities aim to benefit more than 400 students.

“We are proud that our own teams are leading this initiative. It is a tangible way to live our values and create a positive impact in the communities where we operate,” added the executive.
