Sale of UK Retail operations

Inchcape sold its UK Retail operations to Group 1 for £346m. This successful transaction marks a significant milestone in Inchcape’s journey to become a pureplay Distribution business.

Appointed distributor of Tata vehicles in Thailand

Inchcape appointed as distributor for Tata traditional and BEV light commercial vehicles, targeting the logistics and mass mobility segments in the Thailand market and strengthens our current portfolio of luxury vehicle distribution for Jaguar Land Rover and used vehicle business, Bravoauto Thailand.

New market entry in the Philippines

Inchcape officially entered the Philippines market through joint venture with CATS Group of Companies, with acquisition of controlling 60% stake. We established Inchcape Philippines and will represent some of our key global OEM brands: Mercedes-Benz, Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep and Ram, Jaguar Land Rover, as well as Mazda and Harley Davidson.

Appointed distributor of LDV in New Zealand

Inchcape appointed as the importer and distributor for LDV in the New Zealand market. The acquisition also enabled Inchcape to enter retail operations in New Zealand.

Global strategic partnership with Great Wall Motor, and appointed distributor in Indonesia

Inchcape entered into a global strategic partnership with Great Wall Motor Company Limited, a leading privately-owned Chinese automobile manufacturer, and is appointed distributor of its new energy vehicles in Indonesia.

2022

Acquisition of Ditec and Derco, developing distribution contracts in Chile and adding fast growing Chinese brands to portfolio.

Ditec brought distribution contracts for Porsche, Volvo, and Jaguar Land Rover in Chile, while Derco, the largest independent automotive distributor in Latin America, expands presence into Bolivia and adds four new brands to the portfolio.

Became the foremost distributor of Mercedes in Latin America

Became the foremost distributor of Mercedes in Latin America, adding Guatemala, Barbados and the Caribbean to the portfolio; Jaguar Land Rover distribution awarded for Indonesia; global strategic partnership announced with Geely, starting in Chile; acquisition of Morrico with over 25 commercial brands in Guam and several Pacific island groups.

IGD Ltd became Inchcape plc

1958

Inchcape Group was floated on the London Stock Exchange as IGD Ltd., with 25% of the company being offered to investors.

1925

Borneo Motors founded

At the forefront of technological advances, Inchcape Group’s predecessor company was an early adopter of the internal combustion engine transport revolution, becoming one of the first importers of motorcars into Asia. In 1925, Borneo Motors was founded to sell cars in Singapore, a business Inchcape would go on to acquire in 1967.

1874

James Mackay joins Mackinnon Mackenzie in Calcutta

Joining the business in 1874, James Lyle Mackay, 1st Earl of Inchcape was one of the founding fathers of the Inchcape complex of companies that would eventually become Inchcape plc.

1847

Mackinnon Mackenzie formed

Inchcape Group can trace its origins back to 1847 when William Mackinnon and Robert Mackenzie, two merchants from Campbeltown, formed a general merchanting partnership, Mackinnon Mackenzie & Company (MMC).
