On the occasion of Electric Car Day, Inchcape, one of the world's leading automotive companies, reaffirms its commitment to sustainable mobility through various initiatives to promote and drive the transition to electromobility.
In a world where sustainability has become non-negotiable, Inchcape Americas, one of the region's leading automotive distribution companies, has launched a series of initiatives to promote the transition to electromobility. The company collaborates with governments and private stakeholders, leveraging its global expertise to improve charging infrastructure and train its workforce. Last year, it implemented the Safety and Electromobility Programme across all markets with this technology, investing £4.6 million in safety infrastructure.
In Chile, Inchcape leads with a market share of over 25% in electric vehicles and 46% in hybrids. Its influence extends to Bolivia, where it controls more than 76% of the hybrid vehicle market. In Peru, Inchcape has established itself as a key player with a 24% share in electric vehicles and 26% in hybrids. Colombia has also seen significant growth, consolidating the company's position in the market.
José Miguel Silva, Regional Director of New Energy Vehicles at Inchcape Americas, highlights that the company plays a crucial role in accelerating electromobility in the region. "Inchcape, with its extensive presence in the region and the wide range of models it offers, is uniquely positioned to be a change agent in the industry, bringing increasingly efficient and less polluting vehicles to people in Latin America," Silva states.
Silva emphasises that the transition is unique in each country, influenced by factors such as infrastructure, public incentives, geography, and culture. "We promote the deployment of new energy vehicles in the region, tailoring the offering to the reality of each market. We understand that conditions vary, and therefore, Inchcape and other key stakeholders play a crucial role in driving the policies needed to decarbonise the industry," Silva concludes.
Mindful of the automotive industry's environmental impact, Inchcape has implemented 25 projects to reduce its carbon footprint, focusing on energy efficiency and the circular economy. To date, the company has recycled more than 1,200 tonnes of waste, including tyres, batteries, and oils, as part of its commitment to achieving net zero emissions by 2040. Additionally, it has set a target to reduce its Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 46% by 2030.
