Smart arrives in Uruguay with two disruptive electric models

  • Inchcape Uruguay introduced the new line of the brand backed by Mercedes-Benz and focused on sustainable mobility

The Inchcape group officially announced the arrival of the smart brand in Uruguay with two 100% electric models: the smart #1 and the smart #3. This addition marks a key step in the group's expansion strategy within the electric mobility market, a segment that is constantly evolving.

«We are entering a segment that is growing exponentially, and we are doing so with an iconic brand like smart,» said Diego Felices, General Manager of Inchcape. The decision to add this line to the portfolio aligns with the goal of strengthening its electric mobility offering while maintaining the premium attributes that characterise Mercedes-Benz.

Disruptive design

The brand targets young individuals with a lifestyle more connected to enjoyment and sustainability. In this regard, Leonardo Cavanna, Brand Manager of the brand, highlighted that «the target audience consists of young people looking to move away from traditional cars, with brighter colours and a strong focus on lifestyle».

Technology and safety

In addition to design, the smart range comes equipped with cutting-edge technology and a strong emphasis on safety. «Even in the more affordable versions, smart offers very comprehensive equipment, including autonomous driving systems that are quite innovative within the segment,» noted Felices.

Cavanna added: «It features Level 2 semi-autonomous driving, seven airbags, a 12.8-inch multimedia screen, leather electric seats that are heated and ventilated, a heated steering wheel, and a panoramic roof.»

Both models offer two powertrain versions, ranging from 270 to over 400 horsepower, with a range of up to 435 kilometres according to the WLTP cycle. With this offering, the brand aims to cater to different profiles, from those seeking an accessible vehicle to those prioritising performance, adrenaline, and technological innovation.

Mercedes-Benz backing

Smart's offering in Uruguay is not only based on the product but also on the technical support and heritage of Mercedes-Benz, which played a fundamental role in the brand's rebirth as a fully electric company. «Smart's offering reflects the premium quality standard characteristic of Mercedes-Benz,» explained Martín Pérez Minetti, Commercial Manager of Mercedes-Benz.

The connection between the two brands is also evident in the after-sales service. Inchcape is responsible for both commercial representation and technical support, ensuring a seamless experience. «The technical staff has been trained to provide maintenance for electric vehicles, and we have the infrastructure and tools necessary to diagnose, repair, and update smart models,» added Pérez Minetti.

Electric future

With a predominantly renewable energy matrix and an expanding charging infrastructure, Uruguay is positioned as one of the most advanced countries in the region in terms of electromobility. For Inchcape, this reality represents an opportunity to lead the change.

«We believe that smart plays a leading role due to its ability to offer an accessible, modern, and perfectly adapted electric vehicle for urban environments,» commented Pérez Minetti. He added: «The launch in Uruguay is not just the arrival of a new brand but an invitation to rethink the way we move, with intelligence, style, and environmental responsibility.»
