  • With cutting-edge technology, certified personnel, and international protocols, the EV Centre aims to position itself as a regional benchmark in training and safe operation of electric vehicles, contributing to the development of more sustainable mobility in Latin America.

Inchcape, the world's leading independent automotive distributor, operates its first EV Centre in the Americas in Costa Rica: a specialised laboratory for the diagnosis, repair, and technical training in electric vehicles, designed under international safety and efficiency standards.

The centre — unique in its kind in the country — represents an investment of over US$400,000 and integrates high-tech infrastructure, global operational protocols, and a certified team for handling high-voltage systems.

“Our vision at Inchcape is to deliver sustainable mobility services, where customers can choose the technology that best meets their needs. In this regard, safety and specific knowledge in handling new technologies (such as electric) are key to ensuring peace of mind for both our colleagues and our customers,” said Matías Andreani, Managing Director of Inchcape CARCAM.

High-standard technical centre

The EV Centre functions as a controlled space for repairs and diagnostics of high-voltage components, and also as a training centre. Specialised technicians, some certified by the National Learning Institute (INA) and/or by manufacturers (OEMs), operate under conditions designed to prevent electric shocks and minimise occupational risks. Soon, a global training programme aligned with ISO standards will commence.

Since its opening in 2024, the centre has serviced more than 20 electric vehicles — 2 undergoing repair processes and 18 through product improvement campaigns — which, without these conditions, would have posed significant risks.

Currently, the JAC brand uses these facilities as its official regional training centre for electric vehicles in the Americas, and it is projected that new brands will join in the coming months.

Global recognition and regional projection

The EV Centre was evaluated by Inchcape's global Health, Safety & Environment team and rated as “best in class” in safety culture applied to high-voltage management. This validation has boosted its projection as a model to replicate in other markets in the region.

Additionally, the company is working to consolidate this centre as a technical hub for the Caribbean and Central America region, providing specialised training in collaboration with original manufacturers. “This initiative not only reinforces the safety of our operations but also raises the industry standard and positions us as the most prepared partner to support the energy transition in Latin America,” added Andreani.
