The Chilean automotive market reaches a historic record in May, and Inchcape leads the drive towards more sustainable mobility

  • Low and zero-emission vehicles now represent 10% of the market in Chile, with cumulative growth of 121.8% so far this year. Inchcape positions itself as a key player in this transformation, with a robust portfolio in electromobility and SUVs.

The Chilean automotive market is experiencing a pivotal moment in its evolution. According to the latest report from the National Automotive Association of Chile (ANAC), between January and May this year, 11,831 low or zero-emission vehicles were sold, marking an increase of 121.8% compared to 2024. For the first time in history, this type of technology surpassed 10% market share: today, 1 in every 10 new cars sold in the country is electrified.

In this context, Inchcape Chile —representing more than 25 automotive and machinery brands— consolidates its leadership with a multi-segment offering that meets the new demands of consumers. Brands such as BMW, Changan Group, GWM, Mazda, Mini, Subaru, Suzuki, and Volvo have been key drivers of growth in the hybrid, plug-in hybrid, and fully electric categories, advancing towards more efficient and environmentally responsible mobility.

“We are witnessing a turning point for the national automotive industry. This growth is not only significant but structural. At Inchcape, we have prepared for this change with a solid, diverse, and technological offering. Today, we are proud to say that 4 out of every 10 electrified vehicles sold in Chile belong to our portfolio, and the best-selling fully electric model is distributed by us,” said Yousef Salomon, Lifecycle Business Manager and Leader of New Energy Vehicles at Inchcape Chile.

Latest NEV sales figures in Chile

In May alone, sales of light and medium new energy vehicles grew by 109.8% year-on-year. Particularly noteworthy were non-plug-in hybrids (+137.8%), plug-in hybrids (+217.4%), and fully electric vehicles (+18.2%). The three categories reached 2,862 units sold, marking their best record so far this year.

In the non-plug-in segment, micro-hybrids led with 1,437 units registered (+232.6%), followed by conventional hybrids with 720 units (+55%). This dynamism is also explained by an offering that has grown year by year.

Inchcape stands out with models such as the Suzuki Fronx or Swift, the Mazda CX-60, and the BMW and Volvo families with their electrification strategies. Additionally, it maintains a strong presence in the SUV and passenger segments.

“Our commitment is clear: to lead the mobility of the future with a focus on sustainability, technology, and high performance. This new milestone drives us to continue creating solutions that connect with the needs of people, businesses, and cities,” concluded Salomon.
