From waste to resource: Inchcape Chile converts 104 tonnes of lubricating oil into biofuel

  • The company advances its commitment to the circular economy by transforming complex waste into useful energy with a lower environmental impact, contributing to more sustainable logistics and reducing its environmental footprint.

So far in 2025, Inchcape, the world's leading independent automotive distributor, has managed 104 tonnes of lubricating oil from its operations, which has been converted into biofuel for maritime and industrial use. This is equivalent to nearly 30,000 oil drums, like those commonly used in vehicles and motorcycles.

This is one of the highest-volume and most complex types of waste to manage, which now finds a new life as an energy source, demonstrating the potential of the circular economy to deliver concrete solutions for more sustainable waste management.

The progress achieved in these six months of 2025 already represents nearly 70% of the total managed throughout 2024, when 152 tonnes of lubricating oil were processed. This sustained pace reflects significant progress in Inchcape's environmental goals and reinforces its commitment to increasingly circular, efficient operations aligned with the industry's environmental challenges.

«The transformation of lubricating oil into biofuel is a tangible example of how at Inchcape we take responsibility for the impact of our operations. Managing this type of waste responsibly is key to advancing towards more sustainable and circular logistics«, added Lucía Mardones, Health, Safety and Environment Manager at Inchcape Chile.

This initiative adds to Inchcape's efforts to reduce the environmental impacts of its operations, particularly through more responsible and circular waste management.
