Protect yourself from scams

Shareholders should be wary of unsolicited phone calls or letters from individuals or companies offering to buy or sell Inchcape shares on favourable terms. Fraudsters may do this by asking the shareholder to pay something up front, such as a bond or other form of security, which they say the shareholder will get back if the sale of the shares does not go ahead. These callers may be persistent and persuasive, and often have professional websites and telephone numbers to support their activities.

Inchcape will never make unsolicited calls to shareholders and any such communications should be treated as an investment scam. Remember: if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.

You should always check that any firm contacting you about potential investment opportunities is authorised by the Financial Conduct Authority (‘the FCA’). The FCA provides useful information and online tools for investors to provide guidance based on the type of investment you may have been offered and how you heard about it. To check whether anyone offering to sell or buy your shares is registered with the FCA please visit their website https://register.fca.org.uk/.

If you suspect you have been contacted by investment fraudsters you can visit the FCA Warning List to check that a firm is properly authorised.

To verify whether a letter or telephone call you have received is legitimate you can contact our share registrar – Computershare – at [email protected] or on +44 (0)370 707 1076. You can also check with Inchcape directly at [email protected] or on +44 (0)20 7546 8235.

If you believe you have already paid money to share fraudsters please contact Action Fraud immediately via their website or on 0300 123 2040.
